Workshop: Mapping openness using Fablabs.io: A Proposal
It's time to make the public compromise of Fab Labs visible, as platforms to democratize access to technology. This key information has been missing. We will propose ways to visualize it at Fablabs.io
The first core requirement for Fab Labs is public access, to democratize access to the tools for personal expression. As per Fab Foundation guidelines, all Fab Labs must be open part of the time each week. Fablabs.io is the main repository of Fab Lab activity. It tracks labs, machines, projects... but the key public time information is nowhere to be found. In this working group, we will detail several strategies to track public opening times and conditions at Fablabs.io, so we can make sure, we're democratizing access, not building walled gardens.
